Vavá Ribeiro é do surfe. E é o mais novo artista a ter uma exposição solo no espaço da Galeria Mezanino na Galeria Mundo Mix, em SP. Abre no dia 21/08 a “Pseudociência“, uma série de fotografias originais que ele fez com algumas de suas câmeras analógicas e que revelou ao longo de horas num laboratório montado em um quartinho escuro. Modelos e amigas formam um álbum de imagens em preto e branco com frames assimétricos e camadas mil. “É um sketchbook“, disse o artista pro Blog LP, como quem quer dizer que as obras que estarão expostas ali são um estudo, parte de um aprendizado que o levou até onde está hoje. Isto é: nas páginas de publicações fashion como a “Purple” e a “Exit Magazine“; no título de melhor fotógrafo do Festival Internacional de Moda e Fotografia de Hyères em 2000, entre outros. No Brasil, fez parte da 1ª edição da Gudi, fotografou a campanha da British Colony e estampou peças de roupa com suas fotos a pedido da Redley (as usadas foram, inclusive, algumas das que estarão expostas).
E o que mudou em suas fotos, de lá pra cá? Muita coisa. Sua produção atual, que está bem mais autoral do que comercial, é mais abrangente. Os retratos ainda estão ali, mas deram espaço pras paisagens e outras imagens que contém narrativas. A cor também foi muito importante. Ele diz que ela é capaz de colocar um fator emocional em uma foto que outra, em P&B, simplesmente não tem – por isso mesmo agora sua obra é colorida. “Mas meu trabalho continua com a mesma alma, simples”, completou.
Daqui em diante existe um mar de novidades pra Vavá. Ele está vivendo no eixo Rio-NY, em fase de negociação com editoras pra publicação de seu 1º livro, ainda sem nome e data de lançamento definidos. As fotografias do projeto vão tratar de lembranças e memórias de viagens (as 8 que fez para o Havaí, mais especificamente). A luz, a água, o reflexo e o surfe (é claro): vai estar tudo lá!
